If we're honest, we've probably all caught ourselves bemoaning the future of this or that, whether our critiques are directed at a genre of music, politics or even an entire generation. While many veteran artists often become the biggest naysayers for the future of their beloved genres as soon as they're taken over by a ton of "kids," Merle Haggard doesn't buy all that. In a recent interview with the Corpus Christi Caller-Times, Haggard said he thinks things in the country music realm are on the up.

After a string of serious health issues and hospitalizations, 74-year-old Merle Haggard said in a statement on Wednesday that he's "feeling good and ready to get back on the bus." This comes after the Country Music Hall of Famer was hospitalized multiple times in the past few months, receiving treatment for double pneumonia, stomach ulcers, the removal of eight polyps from his colon and esophageal diverticulitis.

The 74-year-old singer was briefly hospitalized after feeling ill before a scheduled show at Billy Bob's in Ft. Worth. Haggard spokeswoman Tressa Redburn tells the Associated Press that he'll be checked out by his doctors upon returning home.
Merle Haggard to Release New Album ‘Working in Tennessee’ on October 4
Merle Haggard has settled on the 11 tracks that will make up his next album, 'Working in Tennessee,' available on October 4. The 74-year-old country legend wrote nine of his 77th studio album's cuts, including the title track, which tells the story of his frequently volatile relationship with Music City. The two remaining songs are Johnny Cash classics.
