Randy Travis

Randy Travis was a kid with a golden voice and a habit of making trouble when he was discovered in his home state of North Carolina in the late 1970s. After being told he was too traditional, he found a hit song with "1982" and then "On the Other Hand" and quickly became the hottest young country artist in America. He was adored by fans of contemporary and traditional country, and he continued to record hit country and Christian songs until 2013, when he was slowed by a severe stroke. He's regained some mobility, and in 2016 he spoke and sang publicly for the first time in three years. Travis was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in October 2016 — an honor which was long overdue.
