Remember When Steve Earle Compared Shania Twain to a Stripper?

This is perhaps the most infamous country music quote of all time. Defender of classic country Steve Earle didn't care for the new Nashville sound that was up-and-coming in the '90s. He called Garth Brooks "the Anti-Hank" and then said Shania Twain was "the highest paid lap-dancer in Nashville." In 2001, Country Weekly reported that Earle had a poster of Twain outside his office door. The word "talent" was handwritten on the poster, with an arrow pointing at her belly button.

Steve Earle Cancels Show in Arizona Due to Boycott

The outspoken Steve Earle will not play Tucson, Ariz. on July 4, 2011 as planned. To explain why, he sent a statement to the press: "It is with decidedly mixed feelings and a fair amount of regret that I have decided to postpone our concert that was to have been at the Rialto in Tuscon on July 4th. I am doing this out of respect to the boycott of Arizona that many artists are participating in to support those Arizonans who are opposed to the passage of SB 1070 and any other legislation that discriminates against Mexican-Americans."

Steve Earle Plans Release of ‘Country-Flavored’ New Album

Singer-songwriter-author-actor-non-shaver Steve Earle has announced the release of his new album, "I'll Never Get Out of This World Alive,' due on April 26 via New West Records.  The 11-track album was produced by the ubiquitous T-Bone Burnett, and will be followed in two weeks by a novel of the same name.
