Taylor Swift to Open 2016 Grammy Awards
— The GRAMMYs (@TheGRAMMYs) February 8, 2016
It’s not completely clear what Swift will be singing, but we do have a few clues. The track she is slated to perform is from the Grammy-nominated album 1989, but it is not a song that is up for its own award. The song has never been performed on national television before. That means that “Shake it Off,” “Welcome to New York,” “Blank Space,” “Style” and “Bad Blood” are all out of contention.
That gives Swift 11 songs left from the track list to choose from, and any of those cuts would make a great performance. Maybe she’ll use this opportunity to perform the song that is slated to be her next single — or perhaps “Wildest Dreams,” her fifth number one single released from 1989, will be brought to the stage.
Despite what she opens the show with, Swift is bound to have an eventful night. The pop star has received seven nominations, including Best Pop Solo Performance (“Blank Space”), Best Pop Duo/Group Performance (“Bad Blood”), Best Pop Vocal Album, Album of the Year, Record of the Year (“Blank Space”) and Song of the Year (“Blank Space”).
