Taylor Swift Releases ’22′ as Next Pop Single

Twenty-two is a great age, isn’t it? Taylor Swift certainly thought so! So much so that the music megastar has decided to service her upbeat dance track ’22′ to pop radio as the third official release from her latest album, ‘Red.’

“For me, being 22 has been my favorite year of my life. I like all the possibilities of how you’re still learning, but you know enough,” Swift tells Billboard concerning the track. “You still know nothing, but you know that you know nothing. You’re old enough to start planning your life, but you’re young enough to know there are so many unanswered questions.”

She adds, “That brings about a carefree feeling that is sort of based on indecision and fear and at the same time letting lose. Being 22 has taught me so much.”

The now-23-year-old singer has been learning the ropes of how to be a full-fledged pop superstar since the release of ‘Red,’ given that the project’s current pop single ‘I Knew You Were Trouble’ is sitting pretty at No. 1 with record-breaking airplay and no immediate threats of being dethroned.

The project’s lead single, ‘We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together,’ earned Swift her very first all-genre No. 1 single last year on the Billboard’s Hot 100 chart based on strong digital sales and crossover airplay. With ’22′ now being serviced to pop radio, Swift is three for three in releasing her collaborations with staple pop producers Max Martin and Shellback for mainstream airplay.

To date, ‘Red’ has already sold more than three million copies in the United States, due in part to Swift’s rising profile outside the realm of county music. The project was the only 2012 to be given and triple Platinum certification and has since been upped to quadruple Platinum by the RIAA.

It remains to be seen if ’22′ will be given a coinciding country add date once ‘Begin Again’ runs its course on the charts, but we think Swift may bypass the idea considering the bouncy track isn’t exactly the most country-sounding song remaining on ‘Red.’
