Taylor Swift learns not to run from the earliest sign of romantic trouble in the lyrics of 'Mine.' The track serves as the first single from her current smash album 'Speak Now.' The upbeat country-pop song finds Swift taking a mature, level-headed look at the troubles with her past relationships, and celebrating the new trust she's found with a new lover.

The first verse reveals how skeptical Taylor was about her romantic future when she first meets her new beau: "I was the flight risk with the fear of falling / Wondering why we bothered with love if it never lasts?"

But she's soon won over, and by the time the chorus hits our girl's head over heels in love..

"Do you remember we were sitting there by the water? / You put your arm around me for the very first time / You made a rebel of a careless man's careful daughter / You are the best thing that's ever been mine."

Later, after a nasty fight, Swift assumes the worst, that the relationship is over, a pattern she is apparently very familiar with.  So imagine her pleasant surprise at the song's end when her boyfriend puts his own twist on the chorus, revealing that he's in it for the long haul, even if they argue:

"I remember how we felt sitting by the water / And every time I look at you it's like the first time / I fell in love with a careless man's careful daughter. She is the best thing that's ever been mine."

As we fade out, Taylor declares that the couple is "gonna make it now," because she "can see it now." Lesson learned, for this song at least; onto the next challenge!
