Taylor Swift has a history of putting fans first, whether it’s visiting them in the hospital or responding to prom requests. This time — on Mother’s Day, no less — the country-pop superstar got personal with Kaileen, a fan whom Swift must know as “Iced Coffee Girl,” as that’s how Kaileen identifies herself to the artist.

The fan posted a short letter to Swift on Tumblr about having lost her mother and best friend in January and the sadness she feels experiencing her first Mother’s Day without her. She goes on to say that Taylor “took her out of her sad place and made her happy.”

“Because of you,” she writes, “I got through something that was the hardest thing in the world for me. Today’s going to be another hard day, but I know with you on my side I can get through anything.”

In true Swift fashion, the megastar responded to Kaileen with a heartfelt note filled with comforting words, noting “you’ve lived through my worst fear."

Swift’s mother was recently diagnosed with cancer, sad news which Swift shared publicly as encouragement to others to be sure their parents are being checked regularly, despite their busy lives.

"I’m so sorry you can’t spend today with her,” Swift tells Kaileen. "It’s not fair, and there’s no reason why you should feel okay about it. No one should ever expect you to feel normal today."

Her post reflects the personal relationship she aims to cultivate with all her fans, even mentioning having read Kaileen’s posts and admiring her ‘sunny, sweet disposition.’ Read the full interaction here.

Swift recently kicked off the 1989 tour, hitting up cities around the country in support of her most recent hit album of the same title, which has gone four-times platinum in the U.S. and continues to churn out No. 1s for her since its release in 2014.
