The Highwomen recently stopped by Howard Stern's radio show to sing both an original song and a classic Fleetwood Mac cover. Brandi Carlile, Maren Morris, Amanda Shires and Natalie Hemby stripped down both "Redesigning Women" and "The Chain" for two bare-bones, acoustic performances.

The Highwomen's "Redesigning Women," an anthemic song about women's roles throughout different eras in history, debuted in early July, shortly before the supergroup made their official debut at the Newport Folk Festival in late July. There, the four women shared new songs from their upcoming self-titled debut album and even collaborated with Dolly Parton for a surprise performance.

The Highwomen's cover of "The Chain," meanwhile, comes from the upcoming film The Kitchen. The movie is a thriller starring an all-female cast, including Melissa McCarthy, Tiffany Haddish and Elisabeth Moss. The Kitchen will hit theaters on Aug. 9.

The idea for the all-female supergroup the Highwomen came from a need for one in the industry. "Almost all of us are mothers of young girls. And we all grew up listening to country music," Carlile told The Boot. "We recognize that we're in a time right now where our daughters don't have the same country music heroes that we had.

"Our goal is simply to elevate all women and completely abandon the concept of competing with one another," she explained. "So that we can let as many women through the door as possible, and give our girls those country music heroes that we all had."

The Highwomen will be releasing their self-titled debut album on Sept. 6. So far, the group has shared "Redesigning Women" and "Crowded Table" from the project.
