Why a Masters Golf Ticket Could Set You Back Thousands of Dollars

If you’re a golf fan, attending the Masters might be a lifelong bucket list item for you. However, unless you know someone, or have at least a thousand dollars to spend and a little luck, you might never touch the lush grasses of Augusta National.

The Masters ticket process works as a lottery, and tickets cannot be resold.

The lottery opens 10 months before the Masters start, and applicants are given the option to apply for up to four tickets for any of the three practice rounds and up to two tickets for the four tournament days. Fans are only able to win one day.

According to Bookies.com, fans have less than a one percent chance of being selected to purchase tickets for one of the four tournament days.

Around 11,000 winners are selected each day, and the prices of the tickets aren’t bad! They range from $100-$140, but remember, that’s if you get chosen through the lottery. The secondary market is a different story.

Per SeatGeek, the cheapest 2024 ticket went for $1,470, and the most expensive went for a 4-day pass for $10,061.

The Masters is an invitation-only event, meaning the players don’t automatically qualify purely based on their world rankings.

There are many unwritten traditions that are ingrained at Augusta National, and while the origins for many are unknown, they're followed every single year.

A most notable tradition is the Champions Dinner.

This dinner is for an exclusive group. Only the members of the Masters Club and those who have won a Masters Tournament are allowed to attend.

The formal dinner is hosted by the defending champion on Tuesday of Masters Week.

In 2024, 2023 champion Jon Rahm served a dish dedicated to his grandmother as part of his dinner menu options.

The year prior, Scottie Scheffler’s menu went viral for its casual, relatable feel, with cheeseburger sliders (served Scottie-style) and chocolate chip cookies.
