Thompson Square dug deep into their personal archives for the new lyric video for their latest song, "Masterpiece."

Shawna and Keifer Thompson were inspired to write the very personal song by their three-year-old son, Cooper. They released the new lyric video for the track just in time for Father's Day on Sunday (June 16), and they draw on multiple generations of home movies from their own childhoods for the video footage, which they intersperse with film they recently shot of themselves with Cooper. They shot the newer footage on an old 8mm video camera to provide visual continuity.

“This just seemed like a no brainer,” Keifer Thompson tells CMT.com. “We got to talking about using an old 8mm camera, and I was like, 'I have tons of that stuff from when I was a kid that my dad filmed.' So, we gathered all the videos up, converted them, and there it was.”

"Masterpiece" is the title song of Thompson Square's third studio album, released in June of 2018. The duo, who've scored hits including "Are You Gonna Kiss Me or Not," "Glass," "If I Didn't Have You" and more, welcomed Cooper in January of 2016. The lyrics to "Masterpiece" are an homage to Cooper being the best work the married duo have ever produced.

"Shakespeare sure knew how to write down / Words that will live throughout time / And that Eiffel Tower's still standing / Was built to be one of a kind / Da Vinci's got his Mona Lisa / And Beethoven's got his symphonies / But you're my masterpiece," they sing in the chorus.

Thompson Square recently announced a new worldwide recording and publishing deal with Reviver Records. Keep up with the duo at their official website, or by following them on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
