Man Stabs Three at 2014 WE Fest

Aaron Williams Mug Shot
Becky County Sheriff’s Department

WE Fest 2014, featuring headliners Brad Paisley and Jason Aldean, took a turn for the ugly on Thursday (Aug. 8), when a man stabbed three concertgoers.

The accused stabber, Aaron Williams, 32, was intoxicated when the incident occurred, according to the Becky County Sheriff’s Department. The stabbing took place early in the morning at a campground across the street from WE Fest, and thankfully, the wounds were not life-threatening.

Williams was using a handheld taser to shock a few people, and when confronted, “He took out a knife and started slashing them, and three of them received cuts on the arm,” says Sheriff Kelly Shannon. Police were called in at 1:45AM, and the victims, all three Canadian, were taken to the hospital for stitches. They were later released.

Williams was arrested and was arraigned in court on Friday.

Though the stabbing was alarming, Shannon was encouraged by the calmer atmosphere than the festival has had in years past. “We’re getting less calls (about violence),” he notes. “Years ago there used to be more arrests.”

Country artists to perform at this year’s festival included Aldean, Paisley, the Band Perry, Florida Georgia Line, Zac Brown Band and more. The event ran Aug. 5-9 in Detroit Lakes, Minn.
