Remember When Tim McGraw Grew a Mountain Man Beard?

Tim McGraw‘s beard and mustache have gone through nearly as many changes as Faith Hill‘s hair, but he grew the lumberjacker shown here in 2010 for a very specific reason. Has the singer ever looked tougher than he does in this picture from the Daytona 500?

At the time, McGraw was filming a movie called ‘Love Don’t Let Me Down,’ in which he was to play the husband of Gwyneth Paltrow’s character. He followed through on the role, but the film’s title was eventually changed to ‘Country Strong.’

The women in his life didn’t care for the extra grizzle; his daughters told him he looked old. Two weeks after this photo was taken, the singer was back to clean-shaven, and one month later, he had a full goatee for the ACM Awards in Las Vegas. At last check, he has just a thin mustache and goatee today.
