During an appearance on the Ellen DeGeneres Show on Friday (Feb. 10), Tim McGraw and wife Faith Hill tell the talk show host that the singer's fatherly instincts kick in when it comes to boys and their daughters dating.

In addition to illustrious music careers, the country music power couple share three daughters, 19-year-old Gracie, 18-year-old Maggie and 15-year-old Audrey. McGraw reveals to the comedic host that he gets a little territorial when guys come around and express an interest in their daughters, a fact confirmed by his wife. He tells the story of a time when the girls were getting ready to head to a school dance and he had a sledgehammer over his shoulder.

"You don't want to be mean, but when someone's taking your daughter somewhere you want to induce a healthy amount of respect — and fear," he says to laughs from the audience. "I agree with that," chimes in Hill, saying that she became "like an animal" after going through the experience of her daughter dating for the first time. "Whatever you have to do, do it."

In between making music and a hectic tour schedule, the superstars always have time to bond with their girls. Hill talked about a recent cross-country road trip she took with middle daughter Maggie from Nashville to California, which included a pit stop in Texas where she saved a turtle's life by moving it from the middle of the road.
