Remember When Tim McGraw Couldn’t Keep the Lights On?

Soon after moving to Nashville Tim McGraw found himself living the bachelor life, and he wasn’t very good at it. “Bring a log” is what he’d tell friends coming over to watch TV or play video games.

Dean Brown is part of the superstar’s band, and has known McGraw for over 20 years. He told Taste of Country about those early days. “We’d be there watching the football games and the electricity would go off,” he says, laughing at the memory. “And he’d be like ‘Oh, I must have forgot to pay the electric bill this month.’”

Another favorite activity between friends was playing Sega Genesis, specifically Madden NFL. It’s not clear if McGraw couldn’t, or just wouldn’t pay his bills. Brown never worried about him, however. He says the ‘Shotgun Rider’ singer always had a confidence about him that let you know it’d all work out.
