Trace Adkins is beyond excited about his new music, but there's no reason to rush. In an interview with the Boot, the "Jesus and Jones" singer discusses his forthcoming album and confesses that he's been taking his time putting it together.

“I spent the last couple years working on this, and there’s been no sense of urgency: Nobody’s been pushing me; we’ve taken our time,” he says. “I’m really pleased with the way it turned out.”

Adkins looked to outside writers for his album this time around and says the album is "freaking awesome."

“Songwriter friends of mine here in town know when I’m cutting a new record, and they send me the stuff that they think would work on me and that process has been that way for the last almost 20 years now,” he explains.

His new single "Jesus and Jones" is about a man struggling with balancing the wild side of life and life in moderation, and was written by some of those songwriter friends, Casey Beathard, Tyler Farr and Jim McCormick. In an interview with Taste of Country, McCormick revealed the making of the song which came after Beathard brought in the song's title.

“We started throwing lines out that would fit, and seemed true to the struggle of the singer of the song,” McCormick says. “It wasn’t long before we had more good choices than we needed on a lot of those lines. It was a kick to write it. I won’t say it was very difficult, because I think the three of us felt what we were trying to say, and we all came from a place that could speak to it honestly.”

No release date has been set for Adkins' next album, his first on BBR's Wheelhouse Records.
