Garth Brooks was on the road doing what he does best when he was awarded the Touring Artist of the Year Award at the American Country Countdown Awards on Sunday night (May 1).

But he didn't know he'd won. Trisha Yearwood did, however, and decided it was good enough reason to interrupt his set for a few minutes to tell her husband the good news.

"These guys probably don't know this and I know you don't know this, but there's an awards show going on right now in L.A. called the American Country Countdown Awards," she tell Brooks on stage in Des Moines, as seen in the above clip. "Touring Artist of the Year just went to Garth Brooks."

As the crowd screamed in approval, Brooks took off his hat and gave a kiss to his wife before he thanked the audience for their support.

Brooks' World Tour began in late 2014 and it has been extremely successful for the singer. Pollstar named Brooks the top touring country artist for the first six months of 2015. He continues to announce additional dates to his tour and promises a new album is on the way.

“We’re gonna make a big move here in a just a little bit with Facebook,” Brooks said in a recent video message to fans. “We’re gonna bring everybody in on the new album. We’re gonna bring you in on making this album … songwriting sessions, everything from recording. It’s gonna be a blast.”

Brooks released his most recent album, Man Against Machine, in late 2014.
