10 Twitter Accounts Every Country Fan Should Follow
The Taste of Country Twitter page (@tasteofcountry) is the social media hub for all things country music, including the latest news, reviews and tour announcements. But to make sure you’re getting all of your Twitter experience, we recommend that fans of Keith, Kenny, Taylor, Miranda, Carrie and the biggest names in Nashville should also follow these other accounts to get the behind-the-scenes scoop, off-the-wall humor and exclusive pictures offered only on Twitter.
Included in this list are five official artists pages and one anonymous country critic, plus a few fan clubs and news sources. Find out what each page has to offer, and share the accounts you look forward to hearing from in the comments section below.
Brad Paisley doesn't swamp his followers with tweets, but when he does sound off, it usually leaves an impression. Typically, the singer will offer some of the most cutting humor to be found from a country superstar. Occasionally, he'll share a more poignant thought or picture. If you enjoy him as a CMA Awards host, you'll love his Twitter page.
The anonymous tweeter who calls himself Cake Bowen is like country music's Perez Hilton. Don't follow this page if you don't like someone taking a jab at your favorite country stars, because he'll get around to it. He hits everyone. Occasionally his commentary is bizarre and rude, but more often, he's on point in the most direct way. "Lets party like its 199Travis. Happy New Year!!!" he shouted on New Year's Eve. Caution: not all of Cake Bowen's tweets are safe for work.
Country superstar Carrie Underwood allows fans behind the curtain to see what life at home is like with husband Mike Fisher. One often gets a photo of her planting a playful kiss on her hockey man, or sometimes she'll make a joke about one of her dogs. She doesn't flood fans with minutiae, so every one of her 140-character messages has value.
Popcrush is the leading source of pop news on the internet. You'll find up-to-the minute updates on your favorite pop stars, but also 'The Voice,' 'American Idol' and 'X Factor.' They also keep up with crossover stars like Taylor Swift, and offer a different perspective on her music and relationships.
There is only one way to keep up with all of Miranda Lambert's pets. The singer frequently posts pictures of her new adoptees and shares moments from her personal life -- including gentle jabs at husband Blake Shelton -- on her Twitter page. Lambert also posts photos from her life, which in addition to music includes a store and active hunting habit.
It's not clear who's behind the helmet tweeting on behalf of country newcomer Hunter Hayes, but it's obvious he (or she) is in the know. You'll often find contests and ticket information at this page. HHRoadGuy knows where the 'Wanted' singer will be and how to find him.
Singer and 'The Voice' coach Blake Shelton uses Twitter to respond to fans and share his opinions -- for better or worse. He's not the quiet, polite singer who will ignore insults lobbed his way. Often, he'll fire back hilarious obscenities to an out-of-line tweeter. That's between the inappropriate humor and jokes that begin with "I'm so drunk I ..."
The official Twitter page of the Country Music Association keeps you up to date with who's performing at the CMA Awards and CMA Festival, plus delivers music news. It's a worthy account to follow, one that almost every artist in Nashville keeps a close eye on.
Since delivering her son in December, Sugarland's Jennifer Nettles has been delivering laugh-out-loud tweets at random, like this one: "New tshirt idea for nursing moms. The front says "The Breastaurant". The back says "Bon Appe-tittie." Fans won't find that same sense of humor at the duo's official Twitter page. One only gets a peek at what's happening in the new mother's life at her personal handle.
This Taylor Swift fan page keeps up with the country superstar like the Earth's ozone layer depends on it. If Taylor is in Europe, they know about it and can tell you what flavor jelly she's spread on her crumpet. OK, that might be an exaggeration, but maybe not... Swift's official Twitter page is one every fan already follows, and sometimes she takes time off. @TaySwiftdotcom, on the other hand, is never away long.
