Ty Herndon introduced his partner of five years to the media on Sunday night (Dec. 7). The singer and Matt Collum walked the red carpet at TrevorLIVE in Los Angeles, acknowledging that their first step out was a big one.

"I looked at him and said, 'You know, once we walk this carpet, you're totally gay,'" Herndon told People before admitting that Collum -- a pharmaceutical representative from Missouri -- took it in stride.

Since coming out on Nov. 20, Herndon says he’s been overwhelmed by the support and love. Now that his secret is known, he is focused on new music. Marriage is a possibility at some point, but not quite yet.

“We talk about it a lot,” Herndon reveals.

TrevorLIVE was an event that supports the Trevor Project, an organization which helps LGBT youth struggling with thoughts of suicide. Chely Wright, Jamie O’Neal and Josh Kelley were among the other country artists who attended.
