The 2015 ACM Awards are rapidly approaching, and Tyler Farr is crossing his fingers that he'll become a finalist for the show's New Artist of the Year award. Farr chatted with Taste of Country Nights host Sam Alex about the nomination -- and his chances at winning.

Farr is relatively new to country music, and this year, the Academy of Country Music recognized him as one of the best new acts to come on the scene. Right now, he's up against Brett EldredgeSam HuntKip MooreThomas RhettChase RiceCole Swindell and Dan + Shay for the coveted award. They're all vying for one of the final spots. When voting ends Tuesday (Feb. 10), the eight nominees will be narrowed down to just three.

Farr admits that it's one tough category, but he's modest about the outcome.

“I’m just honored to be nominated," he tells Alex. "There’s a lot of fine strapping young gentleman I’m against that are my friends, so it’s not looking good, but [I’m] keeping my fingers crossed and try to win them over with my just pure snow white soul."

To help earn votes, Farr used his sense of humor and a few cute kids. His ACM Awards videos were meant to be silly.

“We’re trying to hit up kids between the ages of six and 10, really trying to hit that market real hard. They’re honest, I think they see my honesty, so we’re really trying to hit those young kids up," Farr jokes. "We did a campaign with my face on some 2 percent milk boxes, you know at the cafeteria. I’m trying a lot of different angles. We’ll see if this works."

Adds the hopeful singer, "But no seriously, we had fun with the videos. We did that to kind of get my humor out there to people who may not know me or [haven’t] hung around me a lot."

Sam Alex is the host of Taste of Country Nights radio, a syndicated night show which airs on more than 60 Townsquare Media Group stations nationwide.
