When Florida Georgia Line's Tyler Hubbard popped the question to his girlfriend on Sept. 22 during a private helicopter ride, he may have seemed as cool as a cucumber. But the 'This Is How We Roll' singer says he was actually a nervous wreck!

Just one day after getting engaged to Hayley Stommel, Hubbard sat down with CMT to talk about his new fiancee and all the planning that went into their proposal to remember.

"I had the ring for about three weeks or so," says the FGL singer. "I didn't know exactly how I wanted to do it, so I was trying to be patient with it."

Hubbard thought it might be nice to ask his girlfriend to marry him at the house that the two share, but he knew it had to be epic. After weeks of secret planning, the 'Cruise' singer was at the gym when he hit on the idea of popping the question during a helicopter ride -- and it just so happened that he had a friend who owned one.

"I just met a guy last week on a private jet that we were on who happened to live ten minutes from my house and have a helicopter," Hubbard explains of his stroke of luck in finding a private flight. "I don't know why, but it hit me one day. I was in the gym, and I thought [the helicopter ride] would be a cool way to still propose at the house, but not very typically."

After hearing the best "yes" of his life, Hubbard and Stommel spent some precious moments alone together, reveling in their new status as an engaged couple.

"We were flying around our property, and it was just a special time for us," he shares. "And then we flew to dinner and got a private room and got to spend some time together alone, which doesn't happen very often for us."

Hubbard readily admits he was "nervous as heck" before asking Stommel to be his wife. Hopefully now that the two are planning a lifetime together, some of that anxiety is gone!
