Vince Gill and Lyle Lovett will re-team for a series of very informal acoustic shows this coming winter.

The two celebrated singer-songwriters first toured together last January, playing a week of acoustic shows on the East Coast in a casual setting that featured just the two performers onstage, without any backing band, swapping stories and songs in the style of a Nashville songwriter's round. They'll revisit that format for 13 shows beginning Feb. 17, when they kick off their Songs and Stories Tour in Montgomery, Ala.

Lovett has focused on touring with his Large Band in recent years, which features 14 musicians and requires elaborate arrangements, both musical and technical, to support it. Gill is set to tour with the Time Jumpers, a collective of some of the top session players in Nashville who get together and play Western swing. Their joint tour will be very nearly the polar opposite of those situations; not only will there be no other musicians onstage, the pair don't even plan to have a set list.

"I know Lyle won't have a plan, and I won't either," Gill says in a press release. "What he plays will inspire me, and probably vice-versa. It'll be like playing ping-pong. Whatever song he chooses to sing will inspire the next song that comes out of me."

He and Lovett will take turns at the mic, and it's likely they will play some songs as a duo.

"This will be two songwriters in the round," Lovett states. "It’s informal, so there will be lots of ad-libbing. It will be like little snapshots of our experiences."

The Songs and Stories Tour will run through the beginning of March before wrapping up in Florida.
