William Michael Morgan gently spoofs contemporary country music in his new song, "Brokenhearted." The traditional-leaning singer takes aim at the peppy lyrics of so much modern country in the fun song, the second track we've heard from him recently.

Rhett Akins, J.T. Harding and Marv Green co-wrote "Brokenhearted," which finds Morgan musing about how the genre has abandoned the kind of heartbreak and hard times songs that once formed its backbone for lyrics about endless good times and fun.

"Ain't no cryin' in your beer / Ain't no she walked out the door / Ain't nobody brokenhearted in country music anymore," he sings on the mid-tempo, easygoing track, which frames Morgan's classic-sounding voice with acoustic and electric guitars, fiddles and pedal steel.

“Country music is changing, the world is changing,” Morgan says. “Everybody is having a good time at their bonfires and, trust me, I love a bonfire and the whole idea of cold beers flowing, girls on the tailgate. But people also work, people have real lives and go through bad times. The whole message of the song is, ‘Ain’t nobody brokenhearted in country music anymore?’”

It's the second new track Morgan has dropped in the last two weeks, beginning with "Tonight Girl." The two songs are tied together visually by videos shot by Colin Duffy, and a press release says "Brokenhearted" is "the second in a series of linked visuals for his continuing collection of new music."

Morgan scored a No. 2 hit on Billboard's Country Airplay chart with his debut single, "I Met a Girl," in 2016, and he released two more singles from his debut album, Vinyl, in "Missing" and the title song. He has not yet revealed if these new tracks will appear on an upcoming second album, or any further details about his upcoming musical plans.
