Then and Now

Shortly before Vince Gill's career really took off in the late '80s, the singer and guitarist kept a well-conditioned mane of hair. If he kept those locks into his mid-'90s glory days, he'd surely have had shampoo companies like Pantene and Suave knocking each other over to sign him up as a celebrity endorser. In some ways, it's sad that he cut his mullet-like 'do, but in other ways... not so much

Time and a few kids have cost Josh Turner the baby face seen in his 'Then' photo, but he's still one of the most handsome men in country music to this day. The singer's fashion sense has changed quite a bit in the seven years between photos as well, with the new duds fitting much better than the blouse-like shirt he wore to the ACM Awards back in 2004.

This picture of a 25-year-old Jake Owen finds the country singer fresh off the shore, with the glow of the Vero Beach sunshine still bringing out the freckles that now hide behind the scruff of his more adult beard. You'll find that the 'Barefoot Blue Jean Night' singer has always preferred to keep a stubble. His outfit in the more pensive 'Now' photo is remarkably different, however.

Early in Gary Allan's career, he was more of a hat act than he is now. The California country singer has long been known for some of the darkest, most revealing lyrics in the business. These days, he's also known for showing off his heavily tattooed arms, something the country duds in the "Then" picture don't allow for.

You might think you remember what Billy Ray Cyrus looked like when he first burst onto the country music scene in the early '90s, but the reality is much more spectacular. To his credit, the 'Achy Breaky Heart' singer was on the cutting edge of country back then. Actually, he's always been pretty hip when it comes to his wardrobe.

In his prime, Garth Brooks changed looks more than Lady Gaga. His facial hair came and left, and his locks went from long and dark to the grey crew cut we mostly see him with today. As you can see in the 'Then' picture, Brooks' style has gone from cowboy to cowboy-cool in the 20 years between photos.

It's been 15 years since Sara Evans made her country music debut. Just one year after releasing what would become her first No. 1 hit, Evans delivered the first of three kids, so her look has understandably gone through a few transitions and changes. It's still surprising how much different the woman on the right looks when compared with the woman on the left.

It's been 10 years since country fans first met Little Big Town. Since 2002, the group has recorded hit songs and criss-crossed the country more times than a jumbo jet. They've gotten married, had kids and lived through the ups and downs of life. Surely their 2012 picture reflects these life events, right?

Kenny Rogers is something of a silver fox in 2012, but in 1979 he was a handsome cowboy with a head full of thick, dark hair and a beard to match. The singer was known as much for his grizzly facial hair as he was for songs like 'The Gambler' and 'Lady.' Time and plastic surgery may have altered the landscape, but Rogers still commands attention with that famous sharp stare.

This 'Then' picture is indicative of how Trace Adkins dressed early in his career. In many pictures from awards shows, Adkins is seen wearing a vest and ascot beneath his loose-fitting tuxedo. He'd yet to grow the blonde goatee fans expect to see on him in 2012, and he seemed to smile a lot more in the late '90s.
