Carolyn Corlew, longtime background vocalist for the Charlie Daniels Band, just moved from the background into the spotlight. She was recently crowned Ms. Tennessee Senior America, and has the glittering crown to prove it.

A pacemaker won't slow Charlie Daniels down. The Charlie Daniels Band frontman says his fiddling or movements on stage won't be compromised with the device implanted in his chest. He underwent the procedure last month after being hospitalized with pneumonia. He returns to the stage Friday night (April 12) in Verona, N.Y.

The last hour of voting during the finals of March Bandness was frenzied, to say the least. Thousands of fans of Alabama and the Charlie Daniels Band cast a ballot in the waning minutes. Country legend Charlie Daniels is expected to remain hospitalized until Friday as he recovers from pneumonia and a pacemaker implant to regulate his heart rate. The singer was admitted to a Nashville area hospital on Monday (March 25). He says he hadn't been feeling well.

There are more similarities than differences between these two semi-finalists in the Taste of Country March Bandness competition. One legend and one relative newcomer square off in this March Bandness Round 2 battle to decide the best country band of all time. Country fans are sure to be split when deciding who is the better all-time country group in this matchup.

The final Round 1 matchup in the 2013 March Bandness competition is a spicy one. The Dixie Chicks -- arguably the greatest group of the late '90s and early '00s -- are up against a legendary group in the Charlie Daniels Band. Musically, both acts draw from bluegrass and traditional country to create their sound. That may be where the similarities end, however.
