The widower of Grand Ole Opry star Jean Shepard was trying to protect his granddaughter when he shot and killed a man on Saturday (Dec. 17), Nashville's Tennessean reports.
Jean Shepard passed away on Sunday (Sept. 25) at the age of 82. She will be honored this week with a funeral and visitation, which will be open for fans to attend and mourn.
Jean Shepard is a new member of the Country Music Hall of Fame, receiving the highest honor in country music.
