Thomas Rhett Premieres New Song ‘Don’t Threaten Me With a Good Time’ on ‘Saturday Night Live’ [Watch]
Thomas Rhett took the stage in New York City on Saturday night (March 2) to perform on Saturday Night Live, and he debuted a new, never-before-heard song titled "Don't Threaten Me With a Good Time."
Rhett hit the stage for the second time on Saturday after a brief introduction from comedian and actor John Mulaney, who served as Saturday's host.
The singer came out from behind his guitar to stride the stage for his energetic performance, which featured a horn section and a slate of backing vocalists. "Don't Threaten Me With a Good Time" features an up-tempo soul and R&B groove, and Rhett showed off his falsetto and his mastery of cross-genre songwriting as he performed the fun song, which celebrates the notion of some mid-week fun with his significant other.
"That ripped-up T-shirt makes me want you in the worst way / Just take a sip and let's pretend like it's your birthday / Just dive right in, girl the tequila's fine, so fine / She said, 'You know I love a party, don't threaten me with a good time,'" he sang in the chorus.
The song is one of the new tracks featured on Rhett's upcoming fourth studio album, Center Point Road, which is set for release on May 31.
Rhett also gave the live debut performance of the album's lead single, "Look What God Gave Her," during Saturday night's show.
Center Point Road is currently available for pre-order, and fans who order in advance will receive instant grat downloads of the studio versions of both "Look What God Gave Her" and "Don't Threaten Me With a Good Time," the latter of which features Little Big Town.
Rhett will hit the road for his 2019 Very Hot Summer Tour this summer. His father, singer-songwriter Rhett Akins, will join him on the road along with Dustin Lynch and Russell Dickerson. The 2019 Very Hot Summer Tour kicks off in Spokane on May 17 and runs through October.
