This was all around the time Kelly was dancing on ABC's Dancing with the Stars. And in a way, it kind of became a high point in her life. Summer would kick cancer, but Kelly would win Dancing with the Stars with a performance that I still go back to watch every year or so. Her new husband, Kyle Jacobs, performed on stage as she danced, and it was all just so perfect for a woman who battled as hard as anyone for her spot on the radio. And I really can't emphasize this point enough. Kelly had to overcome stereotypes and a record label who pushed her away from a sound that came naturally. In 2012, she finally dropped the 100p proof album. And the next year, she released The Woman I Am. And those two albums still hold up as a high watermark for women wanting to popularize traditional country music. And yes, that is 34year-old me talking to 28-year-old Kelly Pickler in 2014. I think I still own those shorts. Yeah, that's kind of embarrassing. The next year, she'd begin a CMT reality show called I Love Kelly Pickler that was just joyful. Things were going pretty well until they weren't. In mid 2019, her daytime television show called Pickler and Ben was cancelled. Then later that year, Kelly Pickler's father, Bo, died. She's never talked about it, but we found an obituary online, and obviously the details are pretty unknown. Really, Kelly hasn't offered much about her personal life online in over a decade, but some sleuththing shows that she also lost her grandfather, Clyde Senior, in June 2022. That's about the time she went dark [music] on Instagram. In fact, this is her final post. I love it because it speaks to so many parts of Kelly Pickler's personality. Y'all, at her best, Kelly Pickler is a delightful human being. She'll win any room with her humor, and when you spend serious time with her, you realize that Ditzy Blonde thing is really just kind of a persona. A third tragedy would strike eight months after the death of her grandfather on February 17th, 2023. Stunning news. Rocking country music Kyle Jacobs, husband of award-winning singer Kelly Pickler, and a noted music producer and songwriter himself, found dead in their Nashville home.
