For her second song on tonight's 'American Idol,' pop-country hybrid Lauren Alaina sang the Band Perry's 'If I Die Young,' which was chosen for her by mentor Jimmy Iovine, who said he has been wanting to hear Alaina sing this song since the moment he heard her voice.

Kimberly Perry would be proud at the way Alaina, who endured a ripped stocking wardrobe malfunction prior to performing, poured her heart and soul into the song. For two minutes, Alaina connected on another level.

For this second performance, Alaina switched gears and showed her range, shifting from a fun romp through Faith Hill's 'Wild One' to a more contemplative number with grace and ease. It wasn't technically perfect, but overall it was an honest rendering of an emotional song.

"You have the most beautiful tone of our finalists. It is a magical thing you posses," said Jennifer Lopez.

With Scotty McCreery being labeled the possible heir apparent to Garth Brooks after his version of 'Are You Gonna Kiss Me or Not' by Thompson Square, and Alaina bonding beautifully with The Band Perry's smash hit, we're left to wonder if it's going to be a country showdown in next week's finale!
