Blake Shelton is adding “voice actor” to his resume with his new role in The Angry Birds Movie, an animated film based on the smartphone game by the same name. His character will be one of the now-famous green “piggies" — the enemies of the Angry Birds — named Earl.

The movie tells the story of the origin of the feud between the two species and how they came to be adversaries. It features the voices of Jason Sudeikis, Maya Rudolph, Peter Dinklage, Josh Gad and more. Shelton’s character fits the bill for a country artist — a promo photo shows Earl wearing a cowboy getup and carrying an acoustic guitar.

“They kept saying, ‘More country!’ I felt like I was doing a voiceover for Dukes of Hazzard,” Shelton joked to Entertainment Weekly.

The singer even penned a new song for the film, which he says was harder than it seems. “I can write things about myself and my life,” he explains, “But I don’t have a whole lot of experience being shot out of a slingshot at pigs.”

Shelton was familiar with the Angry Birds game before taking the role, noting he was just as addicted to the app as the rest of us.

“I wish I had a dollar for every minute I lost playing that freaking game, you know?” he confesses. “Well, I guess I do now.”

Shelton recently wrapped his ninth season as a celebrity coach on The Voice, which boasted two of his team members, both country singers, in the final four. He’s gearing up for a tour in 2016 and reportedly working on a new album, as well.
