A handshake may seem like a simple gesture to most, but not to Army veteran Brendan Marrocco. After surviving the first-ever successful double arm transplant, the American hero hopes to share his first handshake post-surgery with his favorite country singer, Blake Shelton.

During an interview with WEHT in Henderson, Ky., the wounded warrior expressed his desire to share a handshake with the singer. Of course, after learning of everything he’s been through, Shelton obliged to Marrocco’s request through a Twitter message, writing, “Wow.. Speechless. I will make this happen!!” The ‘Sure Would Be Cool if You Did’ singer first caught wind of the veteran’s story through an outreach from Marrocco’s friends on the popular social media site.

“Hey Brendan @BMarr86…. I can’t WAIT to shake the hand of an American Hero/Stud… You my brother,” Shelton wrote directly to Marrocco.

The veteran responded quickly, saying, “Holy mother of God!! I can’t wait. I’m a huge fan and really looking forward to it. Thank you.”

In 2009, Marrocco became the first U.S. serviceman to survive a quadruple amputation following an armored car bombing during his call of duty in Iraq. Six weeks ago, the veteran defied the odds again, surviving the first double arm transplant at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore.

No word on when the meeting will take place, but given Shelton’s efforts as a dependable humanitarian, we expect the singer to make good on his promise sometime soon.
