Carrie Underwood did her part to help fight poverty at the Global Citizen Festival in New York City Saturday evening (Sept. 27), and it was there that she gave a heartfelt rendition of R.E.M.’s early ’90s hit ‘Everybody Hurts.’

The singer’s unmatched vocals soared as she sang the touching song, looking ever so beautiful in a short black dress. This was one of Underwood’s first major performances since she publicly announced her pregnancy with husband Mike Fisher, but the still barely-there baby bump wasn’t enough to take away from a spot-on performance.

While issues around global poverty and disease were addressed seriously — as they should be, given the organization’s goal to end extreme poverty by 2030 — attendees at the festival were also able to enjoy highly entertaining performances among the somber discussions.

In addition to Underwood, Jay Z (along with surprise guest Beyonce) appeared, Sting and No Doubt sang ‘Message in a Bottle,’ and Alicia Keys, fun. and Tiesto, among others, hit the stage during the event.

The ‘Something in the Water‘ singer has had a big week, also announcing her new single and her first greatest hits album. Underwood’s ‘Greatest Hits: Decade #1′ streets Dec. 9.
