Carrie Underwood Makes Dream Come True for Little Girl With Rare Disorder

From the time she could talk, Haley Hayes has loved singing Carrie Underwood songs, but there was a time when no one expected her to get the chance.

At six months old, the now-10-year-old was diagnosed with Pompe disease — a rare genetic disorder that results in profound muscle weakness. Her life expectancy at the time was only one year, but ten years later, not only is she still singing Underwood’s songs, but she recently got to meet her idol!

WTVR news reports that Haley’s friend Brittany Marie, a local country singer, knew how much the little girl loved Underwood and helped arrange backstage meet-and-greet tickets at the Hampton, Va., show, making one of Haley’s dreams come true.

“The first moment Haley laid eyes on her teared me up and warmed my heart for so many reasons,” Krystal Hayes, Haley’s mom, shares. “Haley asked questions and [Underwood] casually answered like we’ve been friends forever.”

The two took an adorable photo together, which Krystal posted on Facebook, featuring Hayes in a T-shirt touting her No. 1 fan status.

According to Krystal’s Facebook post about the experience, Haley met Sam Hunt at last year’s ACM Awards. Underwood apparently told Haley she would tell Hunt “hi” for her, as he is joining Underwood on tour in the U.K.

Underwood kicked off her Storyteller Tour in late January and has been lighting up stages around the country with Easton Corbin and the Swon Brothers as openers. In addition to performing her hits, she’s even thrown in a few unique covers, including “Fishin’ in the Dark” with her tourmates and “I Will Always Love You.” The tour continues through the end of May.
