Chris Janson’s "Buy Me a Boat" proves that with the right song at the right time, you can make a name for yourself, even when you're an independent artist. The mellow country-rocker is the sort of blue collar hero song that gets released every spring, but it comes across with sincerity sorely lacking from many others.

Janson has released songs with a few labels, but mostly relied on a loyal fanbase to keep his bills paid and family fed. The singer showed some grit with “Better I Don’t” in 2013. This new cut is about big dreams and small realities.

But it can buy me a boat / It could buy me a truck to pull it / It could buy me a Yeti 110, iced down with some silver bullets / I know what they say / Money can’t buy everything / Maybe so, but it could buy me a boat,” Janson sings at each chorus.

A few sharp lines like “sitting on a pile like Warren Buffett” let this song stand above the rest. Electric guitars grind it out as he tells the story — his story — of “Buy Me a Boat.”

They call me redneck, white trash and blue collar / I could change all that if I had a couple million dollars / I keep hearing that money is the root of all evil and you can’t fit a camel through the eye of a needle / I’m sure that’s probably true but it still sounds pretty cool.

At three minutes, the song closes with one wanting more. It’s easy to embrace and even easier to get caught between your ears. Keep an eye on “Buy Me a Boat.” Janson could have the success story of the summer.

Why Fans Will Love It: The time is right for a great summer song.

Key Lyrics: "I know what they say / Money can’t buy everything / Maybe so, but it could buy me a boat."

Did You Know?: Janson's "But Me a Boat" shot to the top of the iTunes charts just hours after its release thanks to radio airplay from the nationally syndicated Bobby Bones Show.
