Chris Stapleton Debuts New Song at 2017 ACM Awards

Chris Stapleton performed a new song on the 2017 ACM Awards titled “Second One to Know.”

Stapleton took the stage to perform the uptempo track that was full of plenty of rock ‘n’ roll style. The country-rocker delivered a solid performance that also included his wife Morgane on tambourine. Always the killer guitarist, Stapleton offered up an incredible solo performance on guitar that had his hands strumming at rapid speed. Several of the “Nobody to Blame” singer’s peers were rocking right along to the tracking the audience including Keith Urban, Charles Kelley of Lady Antebellum and Tyler Hubbard of Florida Georgia Line.

Stapleton announced he was going to perform a new “uptempo” song at the 52nd annual awards show in the week prior to the show. “Well, we got a request … for some[thing] uptempo, so we handed in the most uptempo thing that we have,” Stapleton revealed in a pre-show interview with the Academy of Country Music. “So that’s what we’re gonna do: We’re gonna get out there and rock out a little bit.” And he certainly did.

The country star was up for multiple of the night’s awards including Male Vocalist of the Year with Jason Aldean, Dierks Bentley, Thomas Rhett and Urban, as well as Video of the Year for “Fire Away,” up against Tim McGraw for “Humble and Kind,” Kelsea Ballerini‘s “Peter Pan” and Miranda Lambert’s “Vice.” His breakthrough cover of “Tennessee Whiskey” is also nominated for Song of the Year alongside Urban’s “Blue Ain’t Your Color,” Rhett’s “Die a Happy Man,” “Humble and Kind,” “Vice” and “Kill a Word” by Eric Church.
