Chris Young is collaborating with two very different country stars for tracks on his upcoming fifth studio album.

Young recently released "I'm Comin' Over" as the lead single from the new album, for which there is no title or set release date yet. The song is a bit of a sonic departure from his most recent album, A.M., and he says there are even more musical surprises in store.

“There’s a male/female duet on here, which is something I’ve never done before, with Cassadee Pope, that I think everybody is gonna be really excited about,” Young tells the Boot. “There’s a song that Vince Gill came in and guested on.”

Young personally asked Pope if she would guest on her track. “I was just like, ‘I’ve got to ask her,’ because I love her voice, and she’s a phenomenal singer,” he adds. “And I asked her, and she was like, ‘Absolutely, I’d love to.’ So we got her in the studio and did that.”

The collaboration with Gill came about after Young found a "really, really cool ballad" that he thought the country icon would be perfect for. “We have some of the same management team, and so they asked him if he’d do it,” Young explains, “and he was like, ‘Absolutely.' Crazy how things come together, and it was just the right timing.”

Young is also co-producing his upcoming project, marking the first time he's produced himself. “I think it’s been one of my favorite things about making this record, is just being so hands-on and being there for every single thing that went down, from the very start of it all the way down to making mix notes,” he says.
