Craig Morgan, one of the toughest guys in country music, is on the mend recovering from a shoulder surgery that was meant to be routine. It turned out to be quite complicated.

The 'This Ole Boy' singer and former soldier went in for surgery Wednesday (May 14), and instead of just undergoing a simple procedure to repair torn tendons, it turned into several hours and six screws put in to heal bone fractures.

Morgan injured his shoulder several weeks ago, just horsing around with friends at a gym, says USA Today. And, the horseplay turned into quite an operation, unfortunately.

Dawn Delvo, rep for Black River Entertainment says, "He'll be in a sling for the next few weeks. It's going to be a road to recovery, but he's a trooper, so I don't think it'll keep him down long."

The singer has cancelled commitments into next week, including shows in Tennessee and California, an appearance on CBS's 'The Talk' and a performance at the Grand Ole Opry.

It's tough to imagine anything will keep Morgan down for too long, including surgery and a sling. We expect to soon see him again onstage and onscreen, as he's expected to film the new season of his TV show 'Craig Morgan All Access Outdoors.' He'll also play the Taste of Country Music Festival at Hunter Mountain on June 14.
