Easton Corbin, ‘Lovin’ You Is Fun’ – Song Review

Easton Corbin isn’t trying to fix something that’s not broken with the first single from his upcoming sophomore album. ‘Lovin’ You Is Fun’ is a simple song that leans heavy on the easy Texas swing that scored the newcomer back-to-back No. 1 hits in 2010.
Since ‘Roll With It,’ Corbin sort of disappeared for a while, but he hasn’t returned with a new repertoire of tricks or gimmicks meant to quickly separate himself from comparisons to George Strait. He no longer sounds like a facsimile of the country legend, but he still mirrors that style. To be clear, this is not a criticism.
“You’ve got a cousin who’s telling you somethin’ that doesn’t have nothin’ to do with the lovin’ that we’re in, baby / I hear she’s sayin’ this game we’re playin’ should be complicated if you want I’ll say it / ‘Cause I think she’s, crazy,” Corbin sings rapid-fire to open the song.
The chorus of this mid-tempo lover is as easy to appreciate as his sweet story. “Love don’t have to be a bunch of drama / A bunch of knock down, drag outs, crying in the rain / It’s all right to keep it light now mama now, don’t you think / We’re having such a good time together and it’s only just begun / My heart’s never smiled so hard / Baby, lovin’ you is fun.”
‘Lovin’ You is Fun’ will sound great through the car stereo speakers on that first abnormally warm day in March or early April. There is a little lesson to be learned from Corbin’s message, but the easy rhythm makes this one that few will take issue with learning again and again.
