'Even if It Breaks Your Heart' could be Eli Young Band's theme song. The story of the hard years spent chasing a dream was written and recorded by singer-songwriter Will Hoge for his 'The Wreckage' album in 2009. Now, it's one of the standout tracks on the EYB's 'Life At Best' album.

Like many of the songs on the project, 'Even if It Breaks Your Heart' is poetry set to music. Often this makes it difficult to figure out the message, but that isn't a problem on this single, the follow-up to 'Crazy Girl.'

"Way back on the radio dial / The fire got lit inside a bright-eyed child / Every note just wrapped around his soul / From steel guitars to Memphis, all the way to rock and roll," Mike Eli sings to begin the song.

Other verses go into more detail about his band's struggles. While they are hardly a marquee name in country music after one No. 1 hit, they have reason to feel more confident. "Some dreams stay with you forever / Drag you around but bring you back to where you were / Some dreams keep on gettin better / Gotta keep believin' if you wanna know for sure."

It's difficult to relate to this song however, as the lyrics are specific to someone trying to make it in the ultra-competitive music business. "Ohhh, I can hear em playin' / I can hear the ringin' of a beat up ol' guitar/ Ohhh, I can hear em singin' / Keep on dreamin' even if it breaks your heart," they sing during the chorus. The fact that it is a song that may struggle at country radio doesn't make it any less of a song, however. Sometimes, the best pieces of art are those a different audience doesn't appreciate.
