Garth Brooks's new single "Baby, Let's Lay Down and Dance" isn't an overly ambitious comeback or an aggressive in-your-face emotional ballad that finds the singer at the top of his vocal range. The first track from a new Brooks album aims to fit right in with what's on the radio, and by doing that, he stands out.

At barely two-and-a-half minutes, "Baby, Let's Lay Down and Dance" is a blink-and-you'll-miss-it love song that you will miss. It's flirty, cheeky and contagious. The uptempo, guitar-driven country cut dares you to keep your feet from moving. A funky bridge is especially reminiscent of another (arguably better) era of country music. Writers Kent Blazy, Steve Dorff, Victoria Shaw and Kim Williams (along with Brooks) work around a slick guitar lick that dances around Brooks as he sings.

Brooks' unwillingness to rely on the hottest writers and producers in country music serves him well on this song. It's a throwback to his honky-tonking heyday. You'll beg to see him play the song live — surely he'll give some fan in the front row a coy smile as he sings the suggestive title line. Garth has returned, and this time, he's brought music the marketplace is ready for.

Did You Know?: Writer Kim Williams died before this song was finished. Brooks says that makes it especially important for him to release it as a single.

The Story Behind "Baby, Let's Lay Down and Dance

Garth Brooks' "Baby, Let's Lay Down and Dance" Lyrics:

"I get this feeling that I can’t explain / Every time I see your face or hear your name / I just go crazy / Thinking baby this may be my chance / What would you say to me if I said baby let’s lay down and dance."

"I got to tell you girl you drive me wild / Every time I see you dance I see that smile / My world gets hazy and I’m moving like I’m in a trance / Whoa I know it’s crazy but baby let’s lay down and dance."

Chorus:
"When it comes to love my heart is black and it’s blue / Swore I was through with romance / But girl you’re something and I’m counting on you / You’re my brand new second chance."

"My friends all tell me that I’m not your kind / They say I better pray your love is blind / You got to save me / I’m a victim of your circumstance / Whoa I know it’s crazy but baby let’s lay down and dance."

"When it comes to love my heart is black and it’s blue / Thought I was through with romance / But girl you’re something and I have nothing to lose / You’re my brand new second chance."

"I got to tell you girl you drive me wild / I’ve never known no one with quite your style / I’m going crazy, thinking baby this may be my chance / What would you say to me if I said baby let’s lay down and dance / Girl I know it’s crazy but baby let’s lay down and dance."
