Granger Smith is releasing a brand-new music video for his current hit single, "Backroad Song," and he's taking fans behind the scenes of the shoot in this Taste of Country exclusive premiere.

The song is the lead single from Smith's upcoming major label debut album for Wheelhouse Records, and it currently resides at No. 10 on Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart. The song's explosive radio run has taken Smith from being a Texas-based indie sensation to one of the fastest-rising stars in country music, and Taste of Country named him our No. 1 Hot Artist to Watch in 2016. CMT will debut the full "Backroad Song" video on Saturday (Jan. 16) during the Hot 20 Countdown.

In the clip above, Smith and his director and crew film the video on location in a barn on a farm in East Tennessee, where the singer performs his hit in front of a video screen backdrop as it flashes various images that pertain to the lyrics of the song.

"It's a really cool vibe, really country, and I think it tells a pretty good story for the song," Smith says.

"I wanted to kind of bring the elements from the outside in," director Chris Hicky explains. "I love the mix of old technology from a barn and new technology with a video wall. The song is a lyrical story; I didn't want to tell that story straight on. I wanted to tell it in an abstract kind of way, and highlight the musicality of the song and the performance, because I think artists first and foremost are performers."

The location shoot in Watertown, Tenn., also captures Smith driving his truck through rolling green hills. The crew got lucky with the weather on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving 2015, though the temperature dipped into the 40s after the sun went down. The shoot kept going after that, with Hicky incorporating B-roll and additional footage from Smith's lyric video into the finished product for a video that is sure to appeal to fans of the singer's down-home, rootsy style.
