Jason Cassidy woke up this Monday to find his song 'Honky Tonk Heaven' inside the Top 10 on the Texas music charts. The singer tells Taste of Country the idea for the thick, fiddle and guitar drenched tribute to long-gone country legends came to him during some downtime in the studio. He started dreaming of playing with legends named Cash, Waylon, Hank or Lefty.

"So I got with my good buddies Doug Deforest and Jody Booth that were producing the album," he says, "and we ended up writing it in about 15 minutes off a drop D chord that [producer Jody Booth] struck! We tried to paint a picture of what it would be like going to heaven and meeting and picking and grinnin' with all the superstars that help make country music what it was! It turned out to be one of my personal favorites on the album!"

"If there's such a place as a honky tonk heaven / I'll be there with my boots on / I'll strike up the band and pop a cold one / 'Cause even the good Lord loves a country song," Cassidy sings during the chorus. His voice holds as true as a Gibson with new strings during some challenging long notes. There's no doubting this singer is confident in the boots he walks in.

The bridge goes,"Don't sell your soul / You're gonna need it with you / To get past Pete at the pearly gates / Your tickets been bought it's at God's will call / If you're lucky son, you won't have to wait." Cassidy says on his website that he'd love to have Jamey Johnson join him for a rendition of 'Honky Tonk Heaven.' It certainly is Johnson's style of song.
