One resilient New Jersey teenager has his mind set on exactly who he wants to take to prom, and the object of his affection doesn't even live in the same state -- much less attend his high school. Somerdale, N.J. senior Kevin McGuire has plans to try and get a prom date with Taylor Swift this year, and while that may sound like a lofty goal, this is a kid who fought cancer once and overcame it, though he is now facing the deadly disease once again.

In order to have his life spared, McGuire has to rely on the lifesaving drug methotrexate, which is in short supply and does not even guarantee that it will see him to a full recovery. The student athlete, who plays football and basketball at his school, has earned the nickname "real life Superman" from his friends, according to a Huffington Post article. When McGuire was just 13, he was diagnosed with leukemia, which he fully overcame in 2010. But the cancer came back, and now the 18-year-old is more determined than ever to make the most of his life and to keep on living.

In an effort to secure McGuire's celebrity prom date, his older sister Victoria took to Facebook and wrote on her brother's wall, which has more than 8,000 subscribers. "Throughout his ups and downs Kevin never even questioned 'why me?,'" Victoria wrote on his wall, trying to spark a movement and get the attention of the country starlet. "Nothing, and I mean NOTHING brightens Kevin's day more than Taylor Swift. Kevin DESERVES more than anyone a special event in his life."

McGuire attends Sterling High School, where this year's prom just so happens to be the same day as his own birthday -- June 1, 2012. On the Facebook page Victoria set up for her brother, she ends her plea with this: "Let's make this happen people! TAYLOR PLEASE GO TO PROM WITH KEVIN!!!!!! NO ONE DESERVES IT MORE!" Thousands of people across the globe are just waiting now to see if, and how, Miss Swift will respond.
