Little Big Town’s ‘Day Drinking’ is similar to everything from their ‘Tornado’ album in that it’s not similar to anything else on the radio. The group went way left of center once again to share a message of the importance of summertime fun and irresponsibility.

There’s a formula to their unique brand of country music however. Lead an album with the perfect summertime jam, something that immediately turns heads and is impossible to forget (think ‘Pontoon’). Then come back with moodier, equally independent tracks that frighten the leaves off of trees.

It remains to be seen if Little Big Town will follow the same twisted path, but why wouldn’t they? ‘Tornado’ — produced by Jay Joyce — was a brilliant album. Joyce is back on this new project, so fans can expect more of the same, which means more of the “Whoa!”

Blame it on the workday, blame it on a heat wave / Blame it on the tick tock movin’ too slow / Blame it on any ol' thing you want to / Ready, get set baby, here we go,” Karen Fairchild sings, taking command of this song like she did the best on ‘Tornado.’

It’s rare a piccolo is relied upon to drive a melody, but that’s what happens on ‘Day Drinking.’ The drum line is the thing though. The shear power of the snares and quads is overwhelming. By the end one’s compelled to throw his beer in the air and shout along recklessly.

“Don't wanna wait / ‘Til the sun's sinking / We could be feelin' alright / I know you know what I’m thinking / Why don't we do a little day drinking,” the entire group sings at the chorus.

It’s infections, it’s powerful and it’s loud -- very, very loud. Little Big Town have found yet another way to expand the genre, something they do more often than any other group and yet no one seems to mind.

Why Fans Will Love It: The power of the drum line almost forces one to enjoy this song. It's like the best college football halftime show you've ever seen, outside of the University of Michigan.

Key Lyrics: “Don't wanna wait / ‘Til the sun's sinking / We could be feelin' alright / I know you know what I’m thinking / Why don't we do a little day drinking”

Did You Know?: 'Day Drinking' wasn't instant magic. The co-writers finished the song and shelved it for a few weeks before Barry Dean ('Pontoon') and Troy Verges brought in a "souped up" version everyone loved.
