It was stop-the-show news on Friday night (May 5). Loretta Lynn had suffered a stroke, and stars like Martina McBride made sure to send prayers before they took the stage.

Jennifer Nettles shared her favorite memory of Lynn, while other females like Jillian Jacqueline and Chely Wright just offered a kind word or — as in Cassadee Pope's case — the perfect emoji. A threat on the life of an artist like Lynn brings some strong emotions front and center, and country's big names were not slow to respond. Rodney Atkins and Jimmy Wayne were two men who tweeted.

Lynn's sister Crystal Gayle offered the most popular message, as within the star's tweet came an update, or at least some reassurance. All indications are that the "Coal Miner's Daughter" singer will fully recover, but as anyone who has suffered a stroke or watched a love one recover after a stroke knows, it's not always that easy.

News of Lynn's condition broke before the weekend. She suffered the stroke on Thursday night (May 4) at her home in Hurricane Mills, Tenn. Little is know about how she's responding, what her next few weeks or months will look like and how severe the stroke was. Her representatives have offered no further comment beyond what can be found on her website and Facebook page.

As of Saturday she was still hospitalized.

It had been a busy 2017 for Lynn, and she had a full slate of concert dates scheduled that she's now postponing or canceling. In April she played two birthday shows at the Ryman Auditorium. Earlier in the month she was part of a tribute to Merle Haggard, and while she was slower physically, her voice was as strong as ever.

Medically she's had a number of setbacks over the years, but has always returned to the stage. The Country Music Hall of Famer is known for gritty, real-life country songs that often punched the male establishment in the nose. Her influence continues to be felt today, with new artists like Mickey Guyton taking time to cover her hits.
