Like many songs on the radio today, the lyrics to Love and Theft's new hit on the rise, 'Angel Eyes,' came through conversation. The new tune (and debut single from the now duo) was penned by Love and Theft's own Eric Gunderson and newcomer Eric Paslay, who is also a co-writer behind the recent Jake Owen multi-week No. 1 hit 'Barefoot Blue Jean Night.'

"We were just sitting there," Paslay recalls to Taste of Country. "I usually just show up and see what song finds us that day."

"She likes whiskey with her water / She starts dancing when the stars come out / She ain’t your typical preacher’s daughter / She’ll leave you dreamin’, yeah there ain’t no doubt," they wrote in the opening lyrics to the song.

"Then we stumbled upon little bit of devil in her angel eyes," notes Paslay. "We thought, 'That's pretty cool!' Then we got the melody rockin' on it."

"There’s a little bit of devil in those angel eyes / She’s a little bit of heaven with a wild side / Got a rebel heart a country mile wide / There’s a little bit of devil in her angel eyes / There's a little bit of devil in her angel eyes," they wrote in the song's chorus.

"They recorded it great," says Paslay. "It doesn't sound too serious. I just wanted to make sure it didn't sound too serious on that song. It's a fun song. I'm glad that they recorded it and that it's out there."
