Luke Bryan will be crossing into new territory at the American Music Awards on Nov. 22, as he performs his first-ever male-female duet live.

“Home Alone Tonight,” featuring Little Big Town singer Karen Fairchild, appears on his most recent album, Kill the Lights, as all the stars finally aligned to foray into a collaboration. “We had always certainly entertained the right collaboration under the right circumstances,” Bryan says, “but it’s always about the right song, and we’ve never really found the song that necessarily did what we wanted it to do.”

The singers alternate lines in the tune, singing to one another as if part of a conversation between love interests. Though the performance is convincing, Bryan’s wife Caroline has nothing to worry about, of course — especially since they actually recorded their parts separately.

It’s an honor to be selected to play the American Music Awards, as they span all genres. Bryan is the only country artist nominated for the Artist of the Year category at the 2015 ceremony. He’s also nominated for Favorite Male Country Artist. Carrie Underwood will also be performing at the event, which will be hosted by Jennifer Lopez.

Bryan also performed his current single, "Strip It Down," at the CMA Awards on Wednesday night (Nov. 4), where he took home the evening's highest honor, Entertainer of the Year. “Strip It Down” earned the superstar his 14th career No. 1 earlier this fall, and he’s currently preparing for the Kill the Lights Tour beginning in 2016.
