Though Miley Cyrus has jumped with both feet into the pop world, she still keeps her country roots intact. In a new video for her song “Younger Now,” she channels some old-school country glam in good measure — though she definitely puts her own unique spin on it.

Cyrus begins the video in a dreamlike scene, lying in a Victorian-style nightgown and gazing wistfully as she ponders her path thus far in life. The breezy '80s-inspired tune provides the backdrop as the artist explores her journey, shifting from scene to scene in which Cyrus tries out a few different styles. She puts on the fuchsia satin, oversized belt buckle and the rhinestones to accompany a fauxhawk-esque hairstyle, strumming an acoustic, in one scene, and in another dons a baby blue rhinestone-encrusted jumpsuit while children dressed as mimes run around her.

A few quirky settings repeat throughout, one in which she hangs out with a puppet dressed in what looks like perhaps a scout leader’s uniform, and another in which she is out on the town with elderly drag queens (a nod to the “Younger Now” title). Leave it to Cyrus to keep us guessing. Her new record is slated to release Sept. 29, and fans can preorder now to get a download of the title track as well as two additional tracks.

When she’s not expressing herself creatively through her music, Cyrus sits in one of the well-known red spinning chairs as a judge on The Voice. She recently asked her dad, Billy Ray Cyrus, to be an advisor to her team this fall. She and her dad seem to be reaching a shared respect for one another after some tumultuous times in their relationship stemming from her Hannah Montana days, as she also released a song in his honor called “Inspired.”

The Voice Season 13 begins in September, with Cyrus alongside Blake Shelton, Adam Levine and new addition Jennifer Hudson as co-judges.
