Thomas Rhett took the stage at the 2017 CMA Awards with a relaxed confidence and a white acoustic around his neck, performing his latest single “Unforgettable” from his new album Life Changes. Like most of his tunes, they speak to the sweet relationship he has with his wife, Lauren, and it showed through in his performance. His sincere delivery came with a genuine smile for most of the song as he reminisced about the early days of the relationship in the breezy, upbeat tune.

Rhett performed in front of a wall of blue LEDs, stationed at a mic and strumming along until the second verse, when he broke free and slung the guitar onto his back, interacting with delighted fans in the front row. Lauren beamed as the last note rung out and the room applauded, proud of her husband and recently-minted father of their two children. The couple recently adopted their toddler, Willa Gray, from Uganda and had their first biological child, Ada James, soon after.

Rhett was nominated for three CMA Awards this year, including Male Vocalist of the Year as well as Musical Event of the Year and Video of the Year for his duet with Maren Morris, “Craving You.”
