Country legend Tim McGraw joined Scotty McCreery to sing an extremely strong duet version of McGraw's 2004 hit 'Live Like You Were Dying' on 'American Idol''s final episode tonight.

A single spotlight illuminated McGraw and his ubiquitous black cowboy hat from above as he stood still and delivered the track's opening vocals in his rich, powerful voice. Even if he doesn't win tonight, McCreery proved he can stand alongside country music's biggest stars by matching McGraw's delivery as he finished the verse with aplomb.

When the chorus hit, the lights turned soft blue at first, then exploded into a blinding white background as the hero and the hopeful joined forces for the first time.  They didn't move around the stage much, but that was OK, because their voices more than filled the room.

When it as all over, McGraw was quick to point his fingers at McCreery, as if to say that the youngster was the one who deserved the crowd's applause. Host Ryan Seacrest, who has found time for a special comment on each and every one of the guest stars that have been parading through the show tonight, announced that McGraw has been recently named the most played artist on all radio over the last 10 years.

Maybe if things go well for Scotty tonight, he can receive a similar accolade from some future, robotic Ryan Seacrest after singing on the most popular holographic television talent show program of 2023.
