What’s Next for Joey + Rory’s Rory Feek?

Joey + Rory‘s Rory Feek has returned home to his Tennessee farm, and with a large circle of friends and family members ready to help, he’s preparing for life as a single father. Before wife Joey Feek’s death, the 49-year-old indicated he didn’t plan on performing or recording music again. So what’s next?

Feek has many talents, the least talked about of which may be writing. His This Life I Live blog was raw yet graceful, revealing but not sensational, and always pure and honest. Perhaps it’s not a surprise that this strong storyteller is also a hit songwriter. Prior to and during his time with Joey + Rory, he wrote hit songs for Blake Shelton, Easton Corbin, Collin Raye and more.

Royalties from those songs will provide some income, which Feek admitted was a concern moving forward, as he’s no longer fronting a popular country and gospel duo. The couple’s final album Hymns That Are Important to Us hit No. 1 on the sales chart, with over 60,000 in sales during its first week on the shelves. That is most likely their final album, unless a collection of unreleased songs is packaged later. Fans of the duo can still look forward to a live concert DVD, planned for later in 2016.

Filmmaking is another area Feek seems eager to focus on after he recovers and establishes a life for himself and 2-year-old Indiana, who has Down syndrome. He co-wrote a movie called Josephine, and the final edit was sent to a number independent film festivals. The period piece tells the true story of a Civil War wife who pretends to be a man so she can join the Confederate Army and find her missing husband. A trailer previews the drama, which Rory talked about in depth in an October 13 blog post.

Joey Feek died on March 4, 2016 at the age of 40 after four months in home hospice.
